What's in That Box? ("the app") is operated by an independent developer. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the service:

Apple ID email address — collected when you sign in with Apple, used to identify your account
Box and item data — the names, categories, locations, and contents you enter into the app
Photos — photos you take of your storage boxes, stored securely in our cloud database
AI scan usage — a count of how many AI scans you have used this month to enforce usage limits

How We Use Your Information

To provide and sync your storage data across devices and shared spaces
To generate QR codes and PDF labels for your boxes
To process AI item scanning via Google Gemini. Photos are sent to Google's API for processing only when you use the AI scan feature.
To enforce monthly AI scan limits

Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider. Data is stored in the United States. Photos are stored in a private, access-controlled storage bucket and are only accessible to members of your shared space.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties except:

Supabase — our database and storage provider
Google Gemini API — photos are sent for AI item detection only when you explicitly use the AI scan feature.
Apple — Sign in with Apple authentication is handled by Apple

Shared Spaces

If you create or join a shared space, other members of that space can view your boxes, items, and photos. Space owners can manage members and their access levels. You can leave a space at any time from the Settings screen.

Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your space, all associated boxes, items, and photos are permanently deleted. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at the email address below.

Children's Privacy

What's in That Box? is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

In-App Purchases (Pro Upgrade & Tip Jar)

The app offers optional in-app purchases processed entirely by Apple. These include a one-time "Pro" upgrade that unlocks additional features, such as increased storage limits (more boxes) and higher monthly AI scan usage, as well as an optional tip jar to support development. We do not collect or store any payment information.

Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us. To delete your account and all data, use the "Delete Space" option in Settings or contact us directly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
